A Look At The Samsung Galaxy

With the launch of their latest iPhone, Apple has once again thrown down the gauntlet to the other mobile manufacturers. Despite it's army of loyal followers, we've already seen that the iPhone 4 isn't perfect, so could this be an opportunity for another smartphone to rise to the top? One thing's for sure, it would still have to be a pretty impressive blend of looks and technology. Could Samsung's best ever smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S, be the one to take on the iPhone?

Looking at the Galaxy S, you are immediately drawn to the size of the smartphone's touchscreen. At 4 inches, it is a good half an inch bigger than the latest iPhone's screen, and wrapped up in a quality looking case that has just the right balance of light plastic and sophisticated chrome, the overall result is a quality looking smartphone.

If Samsung had simply included a large screen on the Galaxy S, they would have won a few fans. But the fact that it's a high resolution Super AMOLED display is going to have a lot of people licking their lips. Bright, vibrant colors and clean, sharp images are matched by touchscreen functionality that responds perfectly to ever touch, and is a joy to use.

The camera on the Galaxy S is more than adequate, if not quite as impressive as the display. At 5 megapixels, it compares well with the iPhone 4 and is only less than a couple of other smartphones, but it comes with a range of settings and options that mean you have more flexibility to get exactly the shot you want. There's no flash, but night mode and full 720p HD video recording add some more value.

Where the Samsung Galaxy S really comes into its own is when it's playing media. Samsung has put a lot of time and effort into creating one of the best media players on the planet, and they've succeeded. There's plenty of storage for your media for a start, up to 48GB. Videos look great on the Super AMOLED screen, and the music player provides amazing quality, with the Galaxy S offering virtual surround sound as well.

The latest Android operating system works well with Samsung's own Touchwiz user interface, and the Galaxy S matches all the other smartphones on the connectivity front with data over 3G, WiFi capability, as well as Bluetooth and GPS. A powerful battery and nippy 1GHz processor make sure that, whatever the demands placed on it, the Galaxy S gives a smooth performance.

The Samsung Galaxy S integrates all your communication needs, across all the usual platforms, including e-mail, messages, and social networking - so you're never out of reach. Apps and widgets from Android and Samsung mean you can customize Samsung's top smartphone to be what you want it to be.

Is the Samsung Galaxy S an iPhone slayer? It's hard to say. There are a lot of things it does very well, but we'll have to see whether it does everything well enough to take on the smartphone king. One thing's for sure, it's certainly a genuine alternative to the Apple smartphone.

A Look At The Samsung Galaxy

The Android operating system has made an appearance on a rather large number of smartphones released in recent years. Manufacturers have fallen in love with the OS and are eager to use it on the handsets they release. Samsung is one such company and have taken great strides using Android technology. With the new Samsung Galaxy, they have succeeded once more in staking their claim as a major player in the Android smartphone market.

People are constantly on the go and do not want to feel weighted down by their smartphone. Samsung is not ignorant of this fact and crafted the Samsung Galaxy to be slim and slender. It is a touch smaller than similar handsets with dimensions of 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm and it weighs only 119g. Some users will be reminded of the iPhone 3GS with the Galaxy’s black plastic and metal look. This should not cause customers to run away from the phone, but some might like it to be a little more distinct in its appearance.

The Samsung Galaxy definitely distinguishes itself with a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, reaching speeds that most other smartphones cannot reach. There are 8GB of internal storage on the Samsung Galaxy that is roughly broken up into 6GB for media and 2GB for applications. If 8GB is simply not enough, the phone provides a microSD slot that accommodates cards of up to 32GB. Connectivity on the Galaxy is achieved via triband 900/1900/2100 HSDPA/HSUPA. Rounding out the package is Bluetooth 3.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port, making a smartphone.

Though the Galaxy certainly does not lack in the speed department, the phone truly excels with its display. The screen itself is a huge, 4-inch capacitive touchscreen that responds very well. It offers 800 x 480p resolution with Samsung’s Super AMOLED display, already a better option than the standard AMOLED and LCD displays of previous models. Super AMOLED also provides much better viewing on the Samsung Galaxy in direct sunlight than many other smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy utilizes Samsung’s own TouchWiz 3.0 user interface on top of the Android 2.1 operating system. This takes some getting used to for those who are familiar with the regular Android 2.1 interface. The TouchWiz does improve the notification bar, providing persistent shortcuts to toggle between vibrate and silent modes, Bluetooth, and WiFi. The Samsung Galaxy also addresses social networking with Social Hub, a function that combines Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter updates into a single stream.

The Samsung Galaxy will surely continue Samsung’s fine legacy of Android smartphones. Placing somewhere near the top of the market, the phone is cutting edge and user friendly. The Samsung Samsung Galaxy will please consumers looking for the newest and best in Android technology.
