Mobile Phone Language

Many people can be put off going out to buy a new mobile phone because they are confused by all the terminology that is often used. The language associated with mobile phones seems to becoming more complex as mobile phones become more sophisticated. Below you will find some of the more common mobile phone terms that you might hear.

- GSM stands for Global Systems for Mobile Communications. This is the most popular system for handling mobile phone communications with over 43 billion people users.

- 1G, 2G, 3G, & 4G mobile phones. What is meant by the G with all these mobile phones is generation. The original cellular phones were first generation and the latest phones are fourth generation. You will probably hear a lot of talk these days about fifth generation phones. These newer phones can handle much more data than their predeccessors.

- SIM Card. The SIM card refers to the Subscriber Identity Module and this is where the user's subscriber identity is stored. Not only will the user's passwords be stored on the SIM card but there will be a unique identity number on there too. Unless you have a SIM card for the phone, you will not be able to use it properly.

- Bluetooth. Many mobile phones have Bluetooth and this is an open wireless network that allows you to pass information over distances. Bluetooth is useful because it allows you to easily pass data between the phones.

- SMS is Short Messaging Services. It refers to communication between one phone and another.

- MMS refers to Multimedia Messaging Service and this is a way to send data such as pictures, music, ringtones, and videos from one phone to another.

- Many mobile phones now have GPS which refers to Global Positional Services. GPS enables our location to be found by using the mobile phone.

SD Cards are used in many products today. 32gb Ultra SD cards can give you a great example of a memory card. Yet another that you can find widely available is the R4i.
